The Chamber of Commerce and Industry opposes immigration amnesty in the TRNC
The Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KTTO) Assembly has taken a stand against a government-proposed bill that seeks to implement comprehensive immigration amnesty. This decision was made during the organization's recent meeting.
At the meeting, KTTO members expressed their opposition to the amnesty, stating that it does not improve any practices but rather encourages rule-breaking in anticipation of amnesty. They also stressed the importance of enforcing regulations to prevent illegal labor within the country.
KTTO Assembly members further emphasized that the tolerance shown towards individuals entering from abroad and violating TRNC laws has transformed Northern Cyprus into a haven for criminal activity. As a result, issues related to public order have become a threat to both the economic well-being and the safety of the population.
The decision by the Chamber highlights that the practice of pardoning illegal workers every few years poses a significant challenge in terms of maintaining public order.
Following the meeting, KTTO Assembly members unanimously decided that the Board of Directors of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce and Industry should engage with the government, presenting necessary initiatives to withdraw the proposed amnesty bill.
It's worth noting that the TRNC government had previously submitted a bill to the Assembly of the Republic, proposing comprehensive immigration amnesty for foreigners residing in the country without permission.
