Tragedy in Gaza: Turkish Cypriot loses a leg, children’s education at risk
In Gaza, a Turkish Cypriot lost a leg after a missile hit his home. The family claims that the strike was carried out by Israeli forces. This was reported by the victim’s aunt, Elin Abuzannad, who said that a shell hit her elder sister’s house while her nephew Abdullah was inside. He now requires a prosthesis and long-term rehabilitation. Relatives describe the incident as a tragedy that shattered the young man’s plans.
In addition, amid the worsening humanitarian situation, children in the sector still lack normal access to education. Early September, which usually coincides with the start of the school year, does not mean returning to classrooms for most students: a significant number of schools have been destroyed or seriously damaged, and lessons where possible are conducted in tents and temporary shelters. According to international media and humanitarian organizations, this is already the third consecutive school year in which education in Gaza is disrupted, leading to skill loss and the risk of illiteracy among the youngest pupils.
Local and international sources emphasize that ongoing hostilities and strikes on densely populated areas of Gaza exacerbate the crisis: families face injuries, losses, and infrastructure destruction, while children experience prolonged interruptions in learning and a lack of safe conditions for studying.
