Transport Companies in the TRNC Refuse Additional Routes for Students
The Association of Public Transport Operators of Turkish Cypriots (Kar-İş) is discontinuing student transportation in the second half of the day. Unions failed to reach an agreement with the Ministry of National Education regarding the cost of transportation services.
In a written statement by Kar-İş President Fuat Topaloglu, it is stated that there were disagreements in the 2023-2024 academic year regarding the method proposed by the Ministry of National Education for determining the cost of transportation.
As a result, the association of carriers decided to halt additional routes, which were previously operated on Mondays and Tuesdays in the second half of the day.
The statement emphasizes that "in the current economic conditions, the established base prices make transportation during the specified time period impossible."
Kar-İş also highlighted the need to "establish base prices for transportation services that would reflect economic realities and ensure the sustainability of the industry."
