TRNC Receives First Financial Tranche from Turkey
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has received its first installment of funds as part of the Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement with the Republic of Turkey. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel following a visit by Turkey's Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz to Northern Cyprus.
Vice President Yılmaz arrived in Northern Cyprus last Friday for a two-day working visit. During the visit, the existing Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement was reviewed, and two new agreements were signed.
- "We signed a protocol that allows the families of our martyrs and veterans to benefit from important social rights, similar to those available in Turkey," Prime Minister Üstel said after the visit.
In addition to that, another protocol was signed, enabling civilians to access services at the newly opened military hospital in Kyrenia.
The discussions also included the final phase of the project to supply electricity from Turkey to Northern Cyprus via an undersea cable.
- "The process is moving forward. We are committed, and it will be accomplished," emphasized the Prime Minister.
Other upcoming projects for Northern Cyprus include the completion of the Northern Nicosia Ring Road, as well as the Alsancak-Lapta, Kyrenia-Çatalköy, and Karpaz-Zafer Burnu roads.
Meanwhile, progress continues in the education sector.
- "Our goal is to build 40 new schools. We have completed 18 in the past four years. We aim to reach this target by 2027," Prime Minister Üstel added.
It’s worth noting that earlier this year, the TRNC and Turkey signed the largest Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement in their history, with more than 16 billion Turkish lira allocated for various projects.
