TRNC to Host Council of Elders Meeting of the Organization of Turkic States
The 17th meeting of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) will take place in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The high-level gathering is scheduled for May 1–2 in Nicosia.
A key topic on the agenda will be the recent opening of diplomatic missions by Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan in the Republic of Cyprus. Late last year, all three countries appointed ambassadors to the Republic.
This move sparked controversy, prompting TRNC President Ersin Tatar to urge Turkic states to approach their relations with the Greek Cypriot administration with caution.
In light of agreements made by some OTS member states with the European Union, the Organization made the significant decision to hold its 17th Council of Elders meeting in Northern Cyprus.
