Turkish official: Iranian missile shot down near border could have been headed toward Cyprus base
A Turkish official stated that the Iranian missile shot down by NATO air defense systems near Turkish airspace might not have been aimed at Turkey, but at a base in South Cyprus.
According to the AFP agency, the missile was launched from Iran and went off course, which is why it ended up near Turkish airspace.
Previously, NATO reported that the missile was destroyed by the alliance's air defense system before entering Turkish airspace. At that time, the alliance claimed that Iran had allegedly targeted Turkey and condemned the incident.
At this moment, NATO has not commented on the new version voiced by the Turkish side.
