Access to the controversial social network Discord has been blocked in Turkey by a court ruling, following a similar decision in Russia.

According to Turkey's Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, the block was implemented upon a request from the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. The platform, which is popular among gamers, was banned due to the distribution of prohibited content, including material involving "sexual violence against children."

As a result, the First Criminal Court of Peace in Ankara ordered the removal of all such content from the platform and blocked access to the specified URLs within Turkey.

Additionally, the Minister of Justice warned internet service providers that investigations into criminal content on several other social networks and digital platforms are ongoing. If they fail to remove the prohibited material, the government will ban advertisements on these platforms, restrict access, and ultimately block them entirely.

  • "We will never allow any attempt to undermine the foundations of our social structure," the minister firmly stated.

Discord is a platform popular among gamers and also widely used within the corporate IT sector.

Recently, Russia also blocked access to Discord. According to Roskomnadzor, the decision was made to prevent the use of the platform for terrorist and extremist activities, the recruitment of citizens for such purposes, drug sales, and the distribution of illegal information.
