Traffic Accidents on Northern Cyprus Cause Over 5 Million Lira in Damage in One Week
In the past week, 71 traffic accidents occurred on Northern Cyprus, resulting in one fatality and 26 injuries.
According to the police’s weekly report, 19 accidents involved injuries, while 51 caused material damage.
The total damage from these accidents has been estimated at 5,132,006 Turkish Lira.
Of the accidents, 26 were due to speeding, 24 were caused by running red lights at intersections, and 18 were the result of reckless driving. The remaining accidents were attributed to various other factors.
Accidents were most frequent in Nicosia, with 25 incidents, followed by 21 in Girne, 14 in Famagusta, 6 in Iskele, and 5 in Guzelyurt.
During nationwide traffic checks, 14,682 drivers were stopped, leading to 2,644 violations being detected. Speeding was once again the most common infraction.
As a result of these violations, 218 vehicles were banned from the road, and 9 drivers were arrested.
