Damage from Fires in TRNC Exceeded One Million Turkish Lira in a Week
From May 27th to June 2nd, there were ten fires and 28 incidents requiring intervention from rescuers in Northern Cyprus. The total damage from the fires amounted to 1,104,435 Turkish lira.
According to the TRNC Fire Department report, four fires occurred in Famagusta, two in Güzelyurt, and one each in İskele, Geçitkale, Dipkarpaz, and Vadili.
The causes of the fires included short circuits, unextinguished cigarette butts, uncontrolled burning of waste, sparks from a transformer igniting dry grass, as well as forgotten oil on the stove and overheated brake pads of a car.
In addition to firefighting, firefighters were called to rescue cats that had fallen into deep wells, become trapped in a car's engine compartment, and stuck in a tree.
