In just one week, 16 fires and 20 rescue incidents were reported across Northern Cyprus, causing nearly 2 million Turkish lira in damages. According to the weekly bulletin from the General Directorate of Police, the total estimated damage from fires between April 28 and May 4 reached 1,930,500 lira.

The fires were likely sparked by a range of causes, including electrical short circuits, discarded cigarette butts, sparks from contact between power lines, dry grass ignitions, open flames, suspected arson, and fuel leaks from vehicle engines.

But it wasn’t just fires that kept rescue teams busy. Firefighters also responded to emergency situations such as rescuing cats stuck in car engine compartments, and helping people trapped in elevators or vehicles following accidents.

Beyond firefighting, crews also worked to ensure road safety, carried out fire prevention measures, held public safety trainings, and transported the bodies of deceased individuals to hospitals for criminal investigations.
