In 2023, 2,680 Crimes Were Reported in the TRNC

In 2023, a total of 2,680 crimes were recorded in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Among these, there were five murders and 45 cases of sexual harassment.

According to Kibris Postasi, the region with the highest crime rate was Nicosia, with 892 reported crimes, followed by Kyrenia, which had 814.

In the capital, the most common offenses included bodily harm, assaults, threats of violence, thefts, and disturbances of public order.

In Kyrenia, property crimes such as theft and burglary were the most frequent. Additionally, the region experienced a significant number of gambling-related crimes, totaling 119 incidents.

Famagusta recorded 460 crimes last year, predominantly involving assaults and disturbances.

In the Iskele district, there were 277 reported crimes, with a notable number being drug-related offenses.

The lowest crime rate was observed in Guzelyurt, where only 237 crimes were reported.

Overall, theft emerged as the most common type of crime across the country, accounting for 428 incidents.

Additionally, a total of 518 cases of bodily harm and assaults were recorded. In 2023, 254 drug-related crimes were solved: 75 in Nicosia, 74 in Kyrenia, and 68 in Famagusta.

Last year also saw 10 attempted murder cases. Among the five victims, three were women and two were men.

According to the report, the deceased women were Zehi Helin Reessur, Aycha Alav, and Kubra Aydin, while the men were Mikhail Kamyshanov and Hussein Mavideniz.
