Man arrested at Ercan Airport after causing a scene on a plane
A man was arrested at Ercan Airport after causing a disturbance on board an aircraft while heavily intoxicated and, according to police, attacking law enforcement officers.
The incident occurred on March 28 around 20:10 on an Ercan–Izmir flight. As police officer Alper Kocadal reported in court, the suspect, Islam Dag, was under the influence of alcohol (214 mg), shouting loudly and waving his arms.
When security personnel attempted to remove him from the plane, the man began insulting the officers and pushed them while grabbing their clothing, thereby obstructing them in the performance of their duties.
In court, the accused stated that he had no intention of attacking the police. According to him, he had bought alcohol for a friend, but upon learning that the drinks could not be brought on board, he drank it all before boarding.
He also mentioned that he came to Northern Cyprus to start a business and asked the court not to send him to prison, stating that he regretted his behavior.
The court, having reviewed the case materials, ordered the man to be held in custody for up to 10 days, noting that his tourist visa expires on March 30, 2026.
