“Scout Trail” exhibition with archival photos from 1920–1963 opens at Ercan Airport
The exhibition entitled “İzciliğin İzi” (“Scout Trail”) has opened at Ercan Airport, T&T Havalimanı İşletmeciliği reported on September 5. The display is located in the departure area beyond passport control and was curated by teacher and scout leader Serhat Bayar.
According to the organizers, the exhibition presents 50 photographs reflecting scouting activities in Cyprus between 1920 and 1963. The materials were selected from the archives of former scouts and compiled by Serhat Bayar to showcase a historical stage in the development of the movement.
At the opening, Bayar stated that the photos illustrate the “golden age” of the Turkish-Cypriot scouting movement, which later lost momentum due to conflicts and misguided scouting policies detached from international activities. He also noted that the movement was once part of the global scouting structure, but today experiences divisions.
Bayar dedicated the exhibition to scout educators and his father, Celal İzcibayar, who, according to him, was awarded the Imperial Medal of Queen Elizabeth II for his contribution to the scouting movement and now resides in London. T&T did not specify the duration of the exhibition; for visitors and travelers, it is an opportunity to see rare historical photographs while in the departure hall.
