A large quantity of drugs was seized at Ercan Airport over the weekend. One of the passengers brought 13 kilograms of marijuana directly in his suitcase.
According to the police press service, a 29-year-old young man arrived in Northern Cyprus early the day before. Around 09:00, during inspection by Customs and Tax officers, 13 kilograms of substances, presumably narcotics, were found in the suitcase of the traveler arriving on the island.
In total, there were 26 packages of cannabis in the luggage. The drugs found were seized as material evidence. The man has been detained for further investigation.
The release by the police does not specify exactly where the passenger arrived from. However, judging by the online flight board at the airport, at the specified time, only two flights landed at Ercan from Istanbul and Ankara.
