A march for justice in support of the "Angels Champions" took place in Akdoğan
A march for justice in support of the "Angels Champions" took place in Akdoğan on the village square. Dozens of people demanded that the 11 accused individuals face trial in the case of the collapse of the "Isias" hotel.
The march was attended by the Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and the Environment, Fikri Ataoğlu, his deputies, the Mayor of Mesarya, Ahmet Latif, and local residents.
"We have always supported the Survival Association of the Angels Champions in their struggle to bring the accused in the 'Isias' case to court and be found guilty of possible intent, and we will continue to do so," wrote Mayor Ahmet Latif on his social media.
The trial for the collapse of the "Isias" hotel, destroyed by an earthquake on February 6, is expected to begin on January 3, 2024, in Adıyaman.
During the tragedy, 72 people were in the building, 35 of whom were from the TRNC. All of them perished.
The "Angels Champions" refer to members of the teenage volleyball team from Famagusta who died in the earthquake in Turkey on February 6. The bodies of 34 people were recovered from the rubble.
Young athletes, aged 12-14, their parents, and several teachers arrived for a volleyball tournament in Adıyaman a couple of days before the tragedy. Only four parents and a school official managed to survive the earthquake.
