Forest fire breaks out in Esentepe
A forest fire broke out in the Esentepe area, located on the northern coast of Cyprus, which residents had feared due to persistent heat, wind, and dry conditions. The fire started around 14:30 on Friday, July 25, in the western part, near the local cemetery.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire quickly spread through the dry vegetation, causing panic among the population. Many residents left their homes on the outskirts, fearing the flames would reach residential buildings.
Firefighting teams and civil defense personnel promptly arrived at the scene. Both ground forces and aircraft — including helicopters dropping water on the fire zones — have been deployed to fight the blaze.
Local authorities have not yet reported any casualties or property damage but emphasize that the situation remains tense. Strong winds are hindering firefighting efforts and increasing the risk of fire spread.
Citizens are urged to stay away from the fire area and remain cautious. Firefighters continue to battle the blaze, working to prevent it from approaching residential neighborhoods and tourist areas.
