A new exhibition titled “Vintage Bicycles of Cyprus” has opened in Famagusta, alongside the launch of a book with the same name. The exhibition will be available for visitors until August 30 at the Bandabuliya City Market.

The event, organized in collaboration with the Famagusta Municipality and the Famagusta Urban Museums Association (MAKEMÜD), attracted cultural heritage enthusiasts and rare bicycle aficionados.

In his opening remarks, Famagusta Mayor Süleyman Ulucay emphasized the development of Bandabuliya over the years and noted that Famagusta is the second-largest city in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

According to MAKEMÜD President Ugur Ulash Dagli, the exhibition showcases vintage bicycles from across the island. These bicycles serve as “historical witnesses to events in Cyprus and play a significant role in the island’s recent history.”

“Each bicycle reflects the past and sheds light on Cyprus's social history,” said the head of MAKEMÜD.

The head of the museum association also shared memories of his own red “Chopper” bicycle, highlighting how it was valuable to him and played a significant role in his first sense of freedom while exploring the city’s streets and surroundings.

The exhibition, running until August 30 at the Bandabuliya market in the historic city of Famagusta, invites visitors to revisit the past and experience Cyprus’s rich cultural heritage.
