Domestic Violence Prevention Center to Open in Famagusta
The Famagusta Municipality is establishing a center dedicated to preventing domestic and gender-based violence while providing support to its victims.
The center, named the Famagusta Municipality Violence Prevention Centre, aims to raise public awareness, collaborate with local institutions and NGOs, assist women, children, and men affected by violence, and strengthen mechanisms to prevent violence.
In a statement, the municipality emphasized:
"Famagusta Municipality, deeply concerned about the increasing cases of violence—particularly against women—as well as domestic violence, peer bullying, and sexual abuse, has taken a significant step to establish a violence prevention center under the leadership of the Gender Equality Committee."
Concerning Statistics
According to reports, during the first 11 months of 2024, TRNC police received 913 complaints and reports regarding violence against women.
