A suspect was detained in Famagusta for stealing money from a dropped wallet
In Gazimağusa (Famagusta) on September 2 around 14:30 near a gas station on 15 August Boulevard, police detained a man on suspicion of appropriating money spilled from a wallet left in a car. The suspect, Mahmut Bazuka, stated in court that he “did not even touch the money.”
According to police, 1,860 euros and 6,000 Turkish lira fell from the wallet onto the ground. Three people collected some of the banknotes and handed them to a gas station employee. Analysis of surveillance footage, as police officer Muhammet Emin Çoşkun stated in court, showed that Bazuka also collected some banknotes and then left the scene.
After checking, the wallet owner found a shortage: 1,300 euros and 5,000 Turkish lira were missing. Police continue to investigate and requested an additional day for investigative actions. The court approved the request and decided to keep the suspect in custody for 24 hours.
For residents of Northern Cyprus, the police recommend carefully monitoring personal belongings in vehicles and immediately reporting such incidents to the nearest station; having surveillance footage often helps reconstruct events and recover some property.
