Soldier Dies by Suicide in Famagusta
A soldier in Famagusta tragically took his own life by shooting himself while on guard duty.
According to a statement from the security forces' command, the incident occurred on March 13, 2025, around 8:55 PM at a security post near TIR Park in Famagusta. The deceased soldier, identified as Halil Ibrahim Gündoğdu, was serving in the Famagusta area at the time. No further details about the incident have been released.
A judicial and administrative investigation has been launched into the soldier’s death.
This is at least the third suicide in Northern Cyprus since the beginning of March. Earlier this week, a man who had been arrested on suspicion of domestic violence committed suicide at the Boğaz Police Station. Additionally, in early March, the body of 24-year-old Moldovan citizen Anastasia Melega was found in a hotel room at the Prenses nightclub in Alayköy. Authorities have stated that her death was also a suicide.
