New Primary School for 650 Students to be Built in Gönyeli
Hüseyin Amcaoğlu, Mayor of the Gönyeli-Alayköy Municipality, has announced the launch of a major educational project aimed at reducing overcrowding in the region's primary schools. The tender process for the construction of a new school for 650 students has already begun.
The new educational campus is planned to be built on the border of Lefkoşa and Gönyeli, behind the BTHK building. The project includes not only modern classrooms but also developed sports and social infrastructure. Authorities are positioning the facility as a model educational complex.
Funding for the project, amounting to approximately 300 million Turkish Liras, will be provided by Turkey. Construction will start immediately after the completion of the tender procedures.
According to the mayor, given the rapid population growth in Gönyeli and Alayköy, existing schools are operating over capacity, and the new facility will significantly relieve the primary education system.
In parallel, the municipality continues to modernize existing institutions:
- Sports grounds have been renovated at the Suat Günsel Primary School,
- Infrastructure work is underway at the Fazıl Plümer Kindergarten,
- New classrooms have already been added to the Alayköy school, and the process of creating additional teaching spaces has been launched.
