A New Primary School Opens in Yeniboğaziçi
A new primary school, "Ömürlü - Kemal Atlı Yeniboğaziçi," has opened in Yeniboğaziçi. The educational institution was built as part of the Ministry of National Education's campaign "Build Another School."
The opening ceremony of the primary school was attended by the country's top officials - President of TRNC Ersin Tatar, Speaker of the Parliament Zorlu Töre, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu, and other dignitaries.
The Head of Northern Cyprus congratulated everyone on this occasion and emphasized that new schools, along with their infrastructure, are investments in the country's future.
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel stated that the government is working to ensure that children continue their education in safe and modern conditions. He also spoke about the efforts made after the earthquake on February 6, as well as the strengthening and repair works carried out in schools.
The Prime Minister also noted that after the earthquake in Northern Cyprus, 1385 tests were conducted in 746 buildings, including 162 schools. The Seismic Resistant Construction Committee identified the need for modernization of 405 individual buildings in approximately 120 schools.
"We have prepared modernization projects for 41 schools. We have conducted tenders for 15 schools. Tenders for another 10 schools will be completed soon," emphasized the Prime Minister.
In his opening speech, the school principal, Fahri Tümkan, wished the new school success and underscored the importance of education for the future of society. Mayor of Yeniboğaziçi, Katip Demir, also thanked the residents of the region for this important gift.
