The Lefka Environment and Ecology Association has raised concerns about the growing number of stray dogs, which could pose a serious threat to the residents of the area.

According to the association's president, Tamer Dayıoğlu, the number of stray dogs in Lefka has noticeably increased recently, and "this situation presents a significant threat to both public health and the overall safety of the community."

In a written statement, Dayıoğlu emphasized that stray dogs are particularly dangerous for children and the elderly. This has become even more apparent with the increasing number of animal attacks.

Recently, two individuals were bitten by stray dogs in central Lefka, and in Gemikonağı, an elderly man had to be hospitalized after being attacked by stray animals.

"This issue has been raised multiple times in meetings with local associations and the mayor, but it has not been addressed. As is well known, the issue of stray dogs falls under the jurisdiction of local authorities and is covered by municipal laws. Unfortunately, the problem in the region persists," Dayıoğlu said.

The association is calling on the authorities to take swift and effective action to address the danger posed by stray dogs in Lefka.

"The necessary steps will protect public health and increase safety. We urge all residents to approach this matter with understanding and to support the authorities in their efforts," the animal protection group added in its statement.
