Man arrested in Nicosia on charges of abusing his own son

A 48-year-old man named B.K. was arrested in Nicosia on suspicion of committing serious crimes against his 16-year-old son. The suspect was taken into custody after the teenager attempted suicide. At the hospital, the boy reported the abuse, prompting a police investigation.
According to the case file, the man faces charges of “sexual abuse of a child under 16,” “sexual abuse of his own child,” and “causing bodily harm.” Based on the evidence collected, he was arrested on August 18, 2025, under a warrant in Nicosia and brought before the district court.
The hearing was presided over by Judge Şevket Gazi. Prosecutor Şayan Ergülen represented the Attorney General’s Office, and police officer Emre Ezdiken, who is leading the investigation, testified as a witness.
During the court session, it was revealed that the case unfolded after the teenager’s mother found him unconscious and took him to the hospital. The medical staff notified the police about the situation. With the involvement of a social worker, the boy’s testimony was officially recorded.
Considering the seriousness of the charges and the need for further investigation, the court granted the prosecutor’s request to extend the suspect’s detention for three more days.
The investigation is ongoing, and police continue to gather additional evidence.
