Another artificial heart implantation successfully performed in Nicosia

Another artificial heart implantation operation has been successfully carried out at the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia.
The surgical intervention was performed by specialists Hasan Birtan and Ozan Eminoğlu. The patient was in critical condition due to severe heart failure. To save his life, doctors used an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) — a mechanical pump supporting the function of the left ventricle.
In his comments, Dr. Hasan Birtan noted that such operations are performed only in a few leading cardiology centers worldwide. According to him, the successful completion of this procedure in Nicosia is an important testimony to the development of local medicine and the strengthening of its capabilities.
He also emphasized that the use of LVAD is especially relevant in cases where a patient is awaiting a heart transplant and the disease has progressed to the terminal stage of heart failure.
This success is considered a significant step for the country’s healthcare system, as it demonstrates that advanced high-tech operations are becoming accessible even in local public hospitals.
