Hala Sultan Mosque to Commemorate Berat Kandili Tonight
Muslims in Northern Cyprus will observe Berat Kandili, the Night of Forgiveness, from February 13 to 14. A special prayer service will take place at the Hala Sultan Mosque to mark this sacred occasion.
The event will be attended by Hakan Moral, Head of the Religious Affairs Department, and Burhan İşlien, Vice President of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye. The program will begin at 18:00, and everyone is welcome to participate.
In his message for Berat Kandili, the President of the Association of Religious Officials, Gökan İnik, described the night as “a precious opportunity for seeking forgiveness, spiritual purification, and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood.” He encouraged all Muslims to embrace this blessed night with prayers.
According to Islamic teachings, Berat Kandili is a night of divine mercy, where sins are forgiven, prayers are accepted, and God's blessings are bestowed. It is believed that on this night, Allah granted the Prophet Muhammad the right to intercede (shafa'ah) on behalf of all Muslims.
Traditionally, believers spend the night in worship, reading the Quran, and offering prayers, seeking forgiveness and divine guidance. Muslims are encouraged to ask Allah to accept their good deeds, cleanse their hearts, and grant peace and mercy to the souls of the departed.
Berat Kandili also signals the approaching holy month of Ramadan, which begins on March 1 this year. Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power) will be observed on March 26, and Eid al-Fitr (Ramazan Bayramı) will be celebrated on March 30.
