A deceased woman's body has been discovered in the sea between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Turkey
The lifeless body of a woman has been found in the sea between Northern Cyprus and Turkey. Authorities suspect that the deceased may be a Syrian refugee who drowned, similar to the previous six victims whose bodies were washed ashore in the TRNC.
According to local media reports, the female body was discovered during an expedition from the port of Kyrenia to Mersin. After the ship's crew noticed the body in the water, the Mersin coast guard teams were notified and arrived at the scene to retrieve the body from the water.
At the moment, no information regarding the identity of the deceased or the cause of her death has been obtained. It is worth noting that earlier reports indicated that six bodies were buried in Northern Cyprus, which were washed ashore. The bodies were never identified, and authorities suspect they belonged to Syrian refugee drownings.
All six bodies were found within the last month. The latest body was discovered this week on a beach in the Inchiler area on the northern coast of Dipkarpaz.
Previously, male and female bodies were found in January, also on beaches in Dipkarpaz, and another male body was found in the Bafra hotel area. Additionally, last week, two lifeless bodies washed ashore from the sea were discovered within one day on the coast in Chatalkoy.
In all cases, identifying the bodies was not possible as none of them had any identification documents with them, and also due to their advanced decomposition.
It is claimed that all the bodies, including the one found in the sea yesterday, belong to illegal immigrants.
