A new exhibition titled "Memory of the Land: From Neolithic to the Middle Ages" has opened at the GÜNSEL Art Museum at the Near East University.

The collection was created by Cypriot Turkish researcher and artist Rauf Ersenal over 24 years. It is dedicated to the development of ceramic art in Cyprus from the Neolithic period to the Middle Ages. The works presented are executed using original historical techniques to recreate ancient artifacts as accurately as possible.

The collection holds special value because it brings back to Cyprus the cultural heritage that was taken off the island during the British colonial period and is today housed in the world's largest museums, from the British Museum to the Metropolitan Museum.

The exposition showcases not only the artistic value of ceramics but also reflects the cultural ties, trade, and daily life of the Mediterranean across different historical eras.

The GÜNSEL Museum has already presented over 1,000 works of art and continues to expand its collections. Other exhibitions in the museum include Selçuk Yalovalı's archaeological collection dedicated to 19 civilizations that existed in Cyprus, as well as a collection of ship models from the Battle of Gallipoli.

According to Rauf Ersenal, the project's goal is to recreate and preserve Cyprus's historical memory, returning the island's cultural heritage to its native land. The collection is already open for viewing at the GÜNSEL Museum.
