UN-Backed Restoration Project for Kanlıdere Launched in Nicosia
A long-anticipated project to restore the Kanlıdere area in Nicosia has officially begun in Northern Cyprus. The initiative, supported by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has moved into the tender phase, with funding already secured.
Mayor of the Turkish Municipality of Nicosia (LTB), Mehmet Harmancı, announced the launch of the project's first phase on social media.
According to Harmancı, the EU and UNDP-funded restoration will revitalize Nicosia’s urban landscape. He emphasized that once the work is completed, "the city's dynamics will shift significantly."
The first phase of the project has been awarded a €1.8 million tender, funded by the EU and UNDP. Funding for the second phase has already been secured and is set to be allocated next year.
Once completed, the redevelopment will introduce a linear park, pedestrian walkways, and cycling paths along the riverbank, creating a more accessible and scenic environment for residents and visitors alike.
