The TRNC Police General Directorate (PGM) has announced that officers will be on duty around the clock during the New Year holidays to ensure public safety and peace of mind. Enhanced security measures have been implemented across the country.

Emergency hotlines, including 155 for emergencies, 156 for drug-related issues, and 199 for fire services, along with other police assistance lines, will be available 24/7 to provide immediate support to the public.

The police have also urged residents of Northern Cyprus to follow traffic regulations and remain cautious.

  • "Do not drive under the influence of alcohol. If needed, seek help from a sober relative or use taxi services. Always observe speed limits—your focus should be on arriving safely, not quickly. Avoid distractions such as mobile phones while driving. Although we often keep our phones within reach, they can cause accidents by taking our attention off the road. Please refrain from making calls, sending messages, or reading while driving," the police advised in their New Year statement.

Drivers are further reminded to wear seat belts, ensure children are secured in appropriate car seats, and for motorcyclists, to wear protective helmets.

  • "If you witness reckless driving or behavior that endangers lives or property, do not hesitate to report it to the police. This also applies to violations of traffic laws," the police emphasized.

Previously, the TRNC police urged residents to avoid using firearms during New Year celebrations.
