Famagusta Port in collapse: union preparing strike

The Güç-Sen union reported serious disruptions at Famagusta Port. According to the organization, ships cannot be loaded for hours, exits from the port area are blocked, and infrastructure problems have become chronic.
The statement notes that multi-kilometer queues of trucks are forming within the port, traffic is paralyzed, and accidents are being recorded. Some facilities remain without electricity, creating safety risks. Because it is impossible to organize the exit of already loaded transport, new trucks also cannot enter for loading.
The union claims that the road surface within the port is in critical condition — potholes and cracks are causing accidents. The organization believes the port has remained without proper investment and maintenance for years, and they place responsibility on the Ministry of Transport.
Güç-Sen also stated that the problems are intentionally unresolved — allegedly to create grounds for port privatization. Accordingly, the union announced it is preparing "shock" protest actions and strikes.
The Ministry has not yet issued an official position regarding this statement.
