In September, the cost of living in Northern Cyprus increased by 5.39%, annual growth — 39.20%
The Statistical Department of Northern Cyprus reported that in September 2025 the consumer price index rose by 5.39% compared to the previous month, while the annual increase amounted to 39.20%.
Compared to December of the previous year, the change was 32.35%. The index base year is 2015 (2015=100). According to the department, the largest monthly increase was recorded in the “education” group — 25.09%.
Changes were also noted in major expenditure groups: “food and non-alcoholic beverages” +5.87%, “healthcare” +5.75%, “recreation and culture” +5.17%, “alcoholic beverages and tobacco” +3.81%, “restaurants and hotels” +3.66%, “other goods and services” +2.91%, “furniture and household appliances” +1.74%, “housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels” +1.34%, “transport” +0.90%, “communication” +0.37%, “clothing and footwear” +0.35%.
Of the 655 items considered, average prices rose for 586 and fell for 69. The most notable price increases were seen for watermelon (+89.12%), tuition fees at private universities for TRNC citizens (+68.82%), and football match tickets (+66.67%). The largest decreases were observed for lemons (−44.67%), lottery tickets (−37.50%), and fresh boletus mushrooms (−31.88%).
These data reflect the current dynamics of consumer prices in Northern Cyprus and indicate a significant rise in the cost of education, food, and healthcare.
