In Northern Cyprus, an Israeli wanted by Interpol was detained with a fake passport
The authorities of Northern Cyprus have detained Israeli citizen Daniel Yehonatan Zarug, who was internationally wanted by Interpol on charges of murder and attempted murder. According to the police, he used a fake Spanish passport under the name Andros Garcia and entered the territory of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus through the Metehan checkpoint.
Zarug was found in the city of Kyrenia (Girne) and was then brought before the Criminal Court in Lefkoşa. He has been charged with forging official documents and using a falsified identity card. According to law enforcement, forensic analysis confirmed that the passport was fake. The court ruled to keep the suspect in custody for two more days as the investigation continues.
Special attention was drawn to the fact that Zarug's name had been included in the list of banned migrants published in the official gazette of Northern Cyprus (Resmî Gazete) the day before.
