TRNC and Turkey Celebrate Victory Day on August 30
Today, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is celebrating Victory Day on August 30. Festive events will be held in all municipalities of Northern Cyprus.
Victory Day is an official national holiday in both the Republic of Turkey and the TRNC. It is widely celebrated to commemorate the successful military offensive led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, which resulted in a decisive victory for the Turkish army.
On the occasion of Victory Day, top officials from the TRNC addressed the nation. Ersin Tatar, the President of Northern Cyprus, also recorded a message for the public.
According to President Tatar, August 30 “is the most vivid symbol of how the Turkish people's love for freedom and independence overcame all difficulties.”
He stated, “Today, we proudly celebrate the 102nd anniversary of the epic victory achieved by the Turkish people with perseverance, faith, and determination. August 30 stands as the brightest symbol of how the Turkish people's love for freedom and independence overcame all obstacles.”
In his message, the Turkish Cypriot leader also mentioned that Victory Day on August 30 “is not just a victory of the past, but also embodies a spirit of solidarity that enables us to look to the future with hope.”
“This great victory, achieved under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, once again demonstrated to the world that no obstacles can stand in the way of patriotism and national will. This victory was also a turning point that laid the foundation of the Republic of Turkey and changed the destiny of our people,” emphasized Ersin Tatar.
The Victory Day celebrations on August 30 began with an official reception hosted by Yasin Ekrem Serim, the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nicosia, along with Major General Sebahattin Kılınç, Commander of the Turkish Cypriot Peacekeeping Forces. Wreath-laying ceremonies at Atatürk monuments will take place across the country, and a detailed program of the celebrations will be provided.
