Pesticides Found in Locally Grown Lettuce and Pomegranates in TRNC
The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has released the results of its weekly food safety inspections. While all imported products were found to be free of harmful substances, pesticide residues were detected in two locally grown items.
Between February 21 and 27, the ministry tested 21 imported food samples, all of which were confirmed to be safe for consumption.
However, two domestic products contained unauthorized pesticides. The affected items were lettuce from a Famagusta-based farmer and pomegranates grown in the village of Akdeniz. As a precaution, all contaminated produce was destroyed to ensure public safety.
