Northern Cyprus Observes Civil Defense Day
February 28 marks Civil Defense Day in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). In early March, the country will host the First Presidential Conference on Earthquakes to discuss preparedness measures.
Ahead of the event, Çavit Aalar, President of the TRNC Earthquake Committee, visited the Civil Defense Organization’s headquarters. During his visit, he officially invited Atilla Karaca, President of the Civil Defense Organization, to the First Presidential Conference on Earthquakes, scheduled for March 6-7, 2025, at the Atatürk Culture and Congress Center of Near East University.
The conference will focus on necessary precautions and strategies to mitigate the risks of potential earthquakes in the region.
To mark Civil Defense Day, TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel addressed the nation, highlighting the critical role of the Civil Defense Organization in safeguarding society—not just against natural disasters but also in times of crisis. He emphasized that ensuring the security of the Turkish Cypriot people and maintaining disaster preparedness remain top government priorities.
— With determination and solidarity, our organization continues to work tirelessly for the safety of our people, strengthening its capabilities year after year, — said Prime Minister Üstel. He also underlined the vital role of civil defense in maintaining security and stability in society.
