In the TRNC, Medical Workers Who Poisoned Children with Alcohol Remain in Custody
Five medical workers have once again appeared in court in Northern Cyprus regarding the tragic case of a baby's death in the neonatal intensive care unit of Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia. As part of the investigation, the suspects will remain in custody for another seven days.
During the court hearing, a police officer reported that testimonies had been collected from 13 individuals as part of the investigation. Surveillance footage showed one of the suspects pouring ethyl alcohol into a kettle while preparing a mixture for the newborns, and another feeding that mixture to the infants.
This incident in the neonatal intensive care unit occurred last weekend when seven infants suddenly became ill, resulting in the tragic loss of one baby.
Following the ongoing investigation, five medical workers believed to be involved in this tragedy were arrested.
The surviving infants are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be recovering well. The exact cause of death for the deceased baby will be determined following an autopsy.
