Man Shot in TRNC—Victim is Former Official’s Son-in-Law; Land Dispute Suspected
A man was wounded in a shooting in Northern Cyprus in what appears to be a targeted attack. The victim, the son-in-law of a former high-ranking official, is believed to have been involved in a land dispute that may have sparked the incident.
According to police, 29-year-old Muhammet İkbal Köksal was shot around 8:00 p.m. in the village of Korkuteli. Preliminary reports indicate that a gunman on a motorcycle fired three shots at him, hitting him in the thigh. Köksal was rushed to Famagusta State Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition. His injuries are not life-threatening.
The shooter fled the scene immediately, and police are actively searching for the suspect. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to help identify the individual responsible.
Local media have reported that Köksal is the son-in-law of Dürdane Abi Avcı, the former Director of the Department of Highways. While the motive has not been officially confirmed, early reports suggest the attack may be linked to a dispute over land ownership.
