Another tragic hotel fire has struck Turkey, this time at the Uludağ ski resort in Bursa, claiming the lives of at least two people. The authorities of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have expressed their condolences to the victims’ families and the Turkish nation.

According to Turkish media reports, the fire broke out late last night at the Kervansaray resort hotel for reasons yet to be determined. The hotel had been closed to guests since January, after authorities identified multiple safety violations and refused to renew its license. However, 12 people—including hotel and ski resort staff—were inside the building at the time of the fire. Emergency teams managed to evacuate them all, but several suffered injuries, including carbon monoxide poisoning. Tragically, two victims later died from their injuries. Initial reports had mentioned only one fatality.

Early findings indicate that one of the victims was Berkin Usta, a member of Turkey’s national ski team. A total of 110 emergency responders from various agencies were involved in the firefighting efforts.

TRNC President Ersin Tatar expressed his condolences, offering support to the victims and their families:

“The fire at the Kervansaray hotel in the Uludağ ski resort has deeply saddened me and the entire Turkish Cypriot community. May Allah grant mercy to those who lost their lives in the flames, my heartfelt condolences to all of Turkey, and I wish a speedy recovery to those injured,” he wrote.

This disaster follows another deadly fire that broke out just two months ago, on January 21, 2025, at the Grand Kartal hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort, Bolu. That tragic incident claimed 78 lives and left 51 others injured.
