Access to Instagram Blocked in Turkey
On Friday, August 2, the authorities of the Republic of Turkey blocked access to the popular social network Instagram.
The decision to block the site was made by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority.
"On August 2, access to Instagram.com was blocked by a decision of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority," said the regulator's website.
The reasons and duration of the blockade were not mentioned on the authority's website. However, according to some media reports, this decision could have been made due to Instagram blocking posts expressing condolences related to the assassination of the head of Hamas's political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in Iran.
The regulator has the authority to restrict the operation of social networks, but its decision must be approved by judicial authorities within 24-48 hours. It is expected that the final decision will be made by an Ankara court on August 2.
Additionally, as of 9:00 AM in the TRNC, access to Instagram was still open, and the service was functioning normally.
