This past weekend, as part of the “One Million Saplings” campaign, 3,000 saplings were planted in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The event took place at the Cyprus-Turkish Forces regiment in Ortaköy and saw participation from the President of Northern Cyprus, government officials, military personnel, and their families.

According to a statement from the Security Forces Command, the event, which carried the slogan “Hand in Hand for a Greener Future,” was attended by TRNC President Ersin Tatar, the Turkish Ambassador in Nicosia Yasin Ekrem Serim, Major General Sebahattin Kılıç, Commander of the Turkish Cypriot Peacekeeping Forces, division and brigade commanders, representatives of political parties, associations, institutions, and organizations, as well as university and high school students.

The sapling planting ceremony began with a moment of silence, followed by the national anthem. During the event, a variety of trees were planted, including 3,000 saplings of cypress, red pine, parkinsonia, orange, lemon, and mandarin. With this initiative, the total number of trees on the grounds of the Cyprus-Turkish Forces regiment now stands at 8,000.

The aim of this event was to help preserve the natural balance and to inspire a deeper appreciation for trees and nature.

In his speech after the planting, President Ersin Tatar thanked all those who contributed to the success of the project. The event concluded with a photo session to commemorate the occasion.
