Authorities of the TRNC reached an agreement with bakers regarding the maximum price of bread: it has risen again in price
In Northern Cyprus, the authorities and the Bakers Association managed to reach an agreement regarding the new maximum price of bread. The parties came to a compromise solution.
According to the Minister of Economy and Energy of the TRNC, Olgun Amcaoğlu, as a result of technical meetings held yesterday with the Bakers Association, bread prices and sector-wide issues were discussed.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached on the price of a 200-gram loaf of bread, which should now be 13.5 Turkish lira.
According to the minister, the meeting also discussed improvements in some key issues to ensure more efficient sector operations and maintain bread prices at a reasonable level.
Minister Amcaoğlu stated that as a result of the meetings, it was decided that the ministry would conduct technical studies on 6 issues and share them with the Bakers Association as soon as possible.
It is expected that in the near future, the ministry and the Bakers Association will hold new technical meetings and present a report to the Prime Minister to bring the sector into proper condition.
Recall that last week it was reported that from February 1, the cost of bread in Northern Cyprus would increase from 12 to 15 lira. However, at the end of the week, a resolution of the Council of Ministers was published in the Official Gazette, according to which the cost of a loaf cannot exceed 12 lira. This decision caused outrage among industry professionals. The Bakers Association strongly disagreed with this decision.
Bakeries issued a joint appeal to the authorities demanding a review of the maximum prices for their products. In some stores, bread continued to be sold for 15 lira.
