Turkish Shadow Theatre "Karagöz and Hacivat" to be Performed in Famagusta During Ramadan
Throughout the holy month of Ramadan, Famagusta will host performances of the traditional Turkish shadow theatre, "Karagöz and Hacivat." This iconic theatrical form is recognized as an intangible cultural heritage, protected by UNESCO. Famagusta's mayor, Süleyman Uluçay, signed a cooperation protocol with theatre artist İzel Seylani to bring this cherished tradition to life.
According to Mayor Süleyman Uluçay, the event, which was first introduced last year, aims to become an annual tradition and an integral part of Famagusta's Iftar cultural program. He expressed his gratitude to İzel Seylani and everyone involved in making the event a success, and he invited the public to enjoy the traditional Turkish shadow play.
İzel Seylani shared his excitement about continuing the collaboration with Famagusta Municipality, emphasizing that the creators of the project are eager to once again bring the classic "Karagöz" and "Hacivat" plays to various locations across Famagusta.
