After Iskele, a Strike is Looming at the Land Registry in Nicosia
The district land registry office in Nicosia is facing a severe staff shortage and equipment deficiencies. Three trade unions are now preparing to stage protests.
The public sector unions KTAMS, KAMUSEN, and KAMU-İŞ have issued a joint statement, saying that the ongoing issues at the Nicosia land registry "have not only disrupted citizen services but have also forced employees to perform tasks outside their job descriptions."
According to the unions, the increasing workload, ongoing staff shortages, and the lack of equipment are placing significant pressure on employees and heightening the risk of errors. Since the office holds all property ownership documents, any malfunctions could have critical consequences.
The unions have sent a letter to the Ministry of Interior, stating that if their demands are not addressed by November 15, 2024, they will proceed with a strike at the district land registry office in Nicosia on Monday, November 18.
It’s worth noting that the Iskele district land registry office has faced similar problems. On November 1, unions there held a warning strike due to the same issues.
The protest stems from the inadequate current building, which doesn’t meet the department’s needs, as well as the ongoing staff shortages.
