48 traffic accidents occurred in Northern Cyprus in one week: one fatality reported

Between January 26 and February 1, 48 road traffic accidents occurred in the TRNC. As a result of the accidents, 12 people were injured and one person was killed.
According to the weekly police report, the main causes of the accidents were:
— speeding,
— inattentive driving,
— violation of intersection rules,
— failure to keep a safe distance.
The total material damage from the accidents amounted to 3,157,200 Turkish lira.
The highest number of accidents was recorded in Nicosia (21), followed by Kyrenia (11), İskele (7), Famagusta (6), and Güzelyurt (3).
Large-scale road inspections:
During road checks, police inspected 16,201 drivers.
As a result of the inspections:
— 2,689 people were fined,
— 216 vehicles were taken out of service,
— 15 drivers were arrested.
Among the most frequent violations:
— speeding — 848 cases,
— driving under the influence — 60,
— running a red light — 226,
— driving without vehicle inspection — 92,
— without insurance — 58,
— without a driving license — 15,
— using a mobile phone while driving — 6,
— not wearing a seat belt — 26.
The police once again urge drivers to follow traffic rules, emphasizing that most accidents could have been prevented.
