63 Accidents in Northern Cyprus in One Week: One Fatality, 16 Injured
Over the past week, 63 road accidents were recorded in Northern Cyprus, resulting in one death and 16 injuries.
According to the weekly report from the General Directorate of Police, one accident was fatal, 10 caused injuries, and 52 led to property damage, with total damages estimated at 3,489,144 Turkish Lira (TL).
Main Causes of Accidents:
- 18 accidents were caused by speeding.
- 14 occurred due to drivers failing to stop at intersections.
- 12 resulted from reckless driving.
- 11 were due to tailgating.
- 8 were caused by other factors.
Accidents by Region:
- Nicosia: 24 accidents
- Kyrenia: 20 accidents
- Famagusta: 14 accidents
- Güzelyurt: 3 accidents
- İskele: 2 accidents
Traffic Inspections:
During the week, police conducted 12,803 driver checks, identifying 2,156 violations, including:
- 644 drivers fined for speeding.
- 393 for using mobile phones while driving.
- 234 caught speeding by traffic cameras.
- 63 arrested for driving under the influence.
- 155 found driving without a valid license.
As a result of the inspections, 220 vehicles were taken off the road, and 5 drivers were arrested.
