66 Traffic Accidents in Northern Cyprus Over the Past Week: One Fatality, 12 Injured
In the past week, Northern Cyprus witnessed 66 traffic accidents, resulting in one fatality and 12 injuries.
According to the police press office, 17 of these accidents were caused by speeding, 16 by running stop signs at intersections, 14 by careless driving, and 12 by failing to maintain a safe distance. The remaining accidents were due to various other causes.
The total estimated damage from these accidents amounts to 4,496,500 Turkish Lira.
The regional breakdown of the accidents is as follows: 23 in Kyrenia, 18 in Nicosia, 12 in Famagusta, 10 in İskele, and 3 in Güzelyurt.
Furthermore, during police operations conducted nationwide, a total of 16,392 drivers were checked, and 3,192 violations were recorded, with appropriate legal actions taken against the offenders.
The most common traffic violation in the TRNC remains speeding, with 1,219 cases reported. Additionally, 82 drivers were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.
As a result, 292 vehicles were prohibited from the roads, and 11 drivers were arrested.
