Over the past week, emergency services in Northern Cyprus responded to seven fires and 33 incidents requiring rescue efforts.

According to the weekly report by the General Directorate of Police, the total damage caused by the fires is estimated at 685,000 Turkish lira.

Four of the fires were caused by electrical short circuits, while one each resulted from a gas leak, a discarded cigarette, and a burning candle. Notably, four of the seven fires involved vehicles.

Here’s a breakdown of fire incidents by location: two in Geçitkale, two in Gemikonağı, and one each in Lefkoşa, Gazimağusa, and Girne.

In addition to fighting fires, emergency responders carried out several rescue operations, including freeing people trapped in elevators and vehicles after accidents. They also saved animals—a dog and goats stuck in a deep well, as well as a pigeon trapped between air conditioning units.

Of the 33 emergency incidents recorded during the week, 14 occurred in Lefkoşa, six in Gazimağusa, five in Girne, four in İskele, three in Güzelyurt, and one in Geçitkale.
