Three People Killed in 66 Accidents in Northern Cyprus Within a Week
During the past week, three people lost their lives in 66 road accidents in Northern Cyprus. Another 22 people sustained injuries.
According to a report published by the police spokesperson, from December 4 to December 10, a total of 66 traffic incidents were recorded, including two accidents resulting in fatalities, 12 causing injuries, and 52 resulting in property damage.
The total amount of damage from the accidents was 4,118,075 Turkish lira.
The most common causes of accidents were speeding, accounting for 20 incidents, 16 accidents occurred due to negligence, 11 due to crossing intersections without stopping, and 10 due to failure to maintain a safe distance. In 9 other cases, accidents happened for different reasons.
Among the accidents, 24 occurred in Nicosia, 21 in Kyrenia, 10 in Famagusta, 6 in Iskele, and 5 in Güzelyurt.
It is also noted that during the week, as part of road checks conducted by the police across the country, 12,854 vehicle drivers were examined. A total of 3,067 violators were identified, and legal measures were taken against them.
Among the most common violations were speeding, using a mobile phone while driving, driving without a license or insurance, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.
During the checks, the movement of 256 vehicles was prohibited, and 13 drivers were arrested.
