20 Fires in Northern Cyprus in One Week: Damages Top 2.4 Million Lira!
Between May 19 and 25, a total of 20 fires and 21 other emergency incidents were reported across Northern Cyprus, according to the weekly report released by the Police Directorate.
The estimated damage caused by the fires amounts to 2,423,680 Turkish lira.
Likely causes of the fires include:

Electrical short circuits

Arson

Sparks falling from power lines

Accumulated grease in extractor fans and chimneys

Unextinguished cigarette butts

Fuel leaks

Unattended candles and cooking oil left on the stove
Aside from putting out fires, firefighters were also called to rescue cats stuck in the most unexpected places—including a car engine, an irrigation reservoir, a rooftop, and even a well!
The fire service was also involved in ensuring road safety, running fire prevention activities and training programs, and accompanying the transfer of deceased individuals to hospitals for investigative procedures.
